| Hey Everyone.................What a great weekend we had. I left St. Francis at 9:00 am Friday morning (in the wind) and picked up Eddy & Sherry Schultz. Got them loaded, handed Eddy the keys (I was not going to drive in the wind pulling a trailer), and off we went. Four and a half hours later, we pulled into Concodia.............(The flu big caught up with Carol, so she did not get to go)............ We spent the afternoon setting up the Northwest Kansas tent..........Mainly getting the "Popcorn Corner" all set up and ready to pop popcorn..........We set up the "Wheel of Wonder" (Thank you Roger Jensen and John Guthmiller for building it for us). This is a large wheel (like Wheel of Fortune) ---- There were questions about NW Kansas velcroed on it......If anyone gave the correct answer, they got a surprise gift bag.... It was a huge success........... Saturday morning we arrived at the tent at 9:00 and at 9:45 fired up the popcorn popper (Thank you BANKWEST) and popped popcorn till 4:40 pm -- and I mean we popped popcorn all that time. On Sunday we were back at the tent by 9:00 am. Got things ready to get going again. Another full day of popcorn popping. Over the two days, we noticed an increase of interest in this area - especially the Breaks....... I'm sure the "8 Wonders of Kansas" contest had something to with that. When we packed up to leave Sunday afternoon, we had went through 99 lbs of popcorn and 2 1/2 gallons of oil - and gave out 2000 + bags of popcorn. A big -- THANK YOU -- to Eddy and Sherry for going along and working and for promoting this area and all he 18 Northwest Kansas counties.... Louanne Isernhagen and Betty Orth entertained in our tent on Saturday. Helene Landenberger entertained on Stage One both days of the festival. Again -- Thank you Eddy & Sherry for your help......... CAR SHOW WEEKEND: I forgot to pass on that Elvis will be performing at the Bandshell on Friday evening (5/9) at 8:30 pm. And again on Saturday morning (5/10) at 10:00 am..........There is no charge, but a donation basket will be available - with all money going to the restoration of the Bandshell........
I'm passing on some more info to you....... On Friday, June 6th, Bike Across Kansas will be arriving in St. Francis to begin their ride across Kansas. They leave early Saturday morning. They are telling me they have almost filled up their registration -- 800 people could be in town. They will be staying overnight at the high school. These people will be looking for a place to eat supper on Friday and breakfast on Saturday (5:30 am)...They all pay for their own meals. I have been told by BAK that the Lions Club will be serving a pancake breakfast at the high school for them........I was told that Mr Schiltz at the high school is looking for an organization, club, someone to do a supper meal for them.......(suggested spagetti/ salad/ bread) Anyone out there interested??? Local restaurants should be prepared............. And yes, this is the same time as the Cheyenne County Relay For Life event at Sawhill Park.
