History

In April 1976, Raedel Winston-Poling and Marguerite Magley submitted an application for a grant through the Aging Americans Act of 1965. In the application they asked for funds to establish a Senior Center and a nutrition site for senior citizens.

In 1976 a Council on the Aging was formed with Raedell Winston as President, Marguerite Magley, Vice President, and Mabel Merklin, Secretary. This was a steering committee for the project.

With the grant funds, they rented a vacant filling station from the St Francis Equity on the corners of Washington and River in downtown St. Francis. Many volunteers helped get the building ready to use. The center opened on October 11, 1977 and began serving meals. Later the building was purchased by the Senior Center .
